Advanced UPRT - Master The Skills Mandatory For Every Pilot

Upset prevention and recovery training is a combination of theoretical studies and practical flying aimed at providing flight crew with the required competencies to both prevent and recover from situations in which aircraft unintentionally exceeds normal flight parameters.

Who needs to undergo UPRT training?

If you have completed your Ab Initio training before the 20th of December, 2019, and plan to continue your pilot training with type rating qualification you need to undergo Advanced UPRT course under FCL.745.A

Minimum entry requirements:

PPL (A) licence or higher with valid SEP (Land) qualification OR to be enrolled in an Integrated ATPL course

Valid Class 2 Medical

Advanced UPRT course

THEORY TRAINING. TOTAL 7 HOURS
  • Single pilot CRM as well as Threat and Error Management – 2h
  • Theoretical classroom hours – 5 hours:
    • Review basic aerodynamics applied to transport aircraft upsets, including case studies of incidents involving potential or actual upsets
    • Understand aerodynamics relevant to aircraft, during practical training exercises, review potential threat scenarios and their suggested effective management
    • Understand possible physiological and psychological effects on pilots during upsets
    • Understand the effect of surprise and other contributing factors and develop methods and strategies to increase pilot resilience
    • Study and memorize appropriate procedures and/or techniques for upset recovery
FLIGHT TRAINING. TOTAL 3 HOURS
  • Course is delivered in a utility category aircraft Cessna 172 in order to expose trainees to conditions that cannot be replicated in an FSTD
  • Employ recovery techniques that are suitable for the aircraft used for training in order to support the training objectives.
    • The relationship between speed, attitude and AoA (angle of attack)
    • The effect of g-load on aeroplane performance, including stall events at different attitudes and airspeeds
    • Aerodynamic indications of a stall including buffeting, loss of control authority and inability to arrest a descent
    • The physiological effects of different g-loads between -1 and 2.5G
    • Surprise and the startle effect
    • Training in techniques to recover from:
      • nose high at various bank angles,
      • nose low at various bank angles
      • spiral dives
      • stall events
      • incipient spin
    • Training to develop resilience and to employ strategies to mitigate the startle effect.

Training location: Vilnius (Lithuania)

Upon completion of the Advanced UPRT course, applicants are issued with a certificate of completion by the ATO BAA Training
